Recently friends of ours got some chickens. Only two. But every day Hilda Hen and Raffles have been laying eggs on the patio outside their back door instead of in their hen house!
A farming friend told them to put a golf ball inside the hen house – in their nest box. Hey presto it seems to have done the trick! So do Chickens need to be taught where to lay their eggs?? Concrete seems to be an odd place as a first choice place to lay an egg?

For over a year our chickens have been laying in their hen house but recently we have had some eggs laid on the bonnet of a tractor (a few eggs have then rolled off the bonnet and smashed on the floor). We then found a couple of eggs on a tractor seat!! For some reason not all of our chickens (we have 16) seem to want to lay in their hen house any more. We just wondered if they had got took short and had to lay there and then.
